Built-in sliding door

You have opted for a sliding door instead of a revolving door, but what now? Do you want to slide the sliding door in front of the wall, or do you want to save space by sliding the sliding door into your wall?

Surface mounted or buitl-in?

For a sliding door, which slides in front of the wall, most of the time there is hardly a difficult technical renovation needed. If necessary, you have to remove the door post from the old hinged door, finish the walls tightly and mount the rail above the doorway, hang the sliding door hangs and ready you are.

In this situation, it is good to realize a few things. First of all, you can never put something against the wall where the sliding door slides. You will also always have a gap between the wall and the sliding door panel. This leads to more draught, but also noise!

The most benefit you will have when you can slide the door panel into the wall. This requires a slightly larger renovation, but thanks to this, you can use all the your walls on both sides (space saving) AND you are less bothered by draught and noise. You actually get the same effect as with a hinged door.

Advantages of a built-in sliding door

A sliding door can be built-in in different ways. You can completely build it yourself with a loose rail in combination with a hanging kit and then create a wall structure, but you can also opt for a ready to use built-in sliding door system. Such a built-in system usually consists of a metal frame which can be mounted against a metal stud wall, a wooden frame, a gyprox wall or a stone wall. Usually, the pocket frame is finished with plasterboard, but you also have sliding door systems with an additional mesh over the frame so that you can plaster it at the same time with the rest of the wall.

Also time costs money

Perhaps a pocket frame for a sliding door seems more expensive than making a construction yourself. Then realize that a ready-to-use metal pocket frame is much quicker and easier to install. As an added benefit, the sliding door doesn't need to be adjusted afterwards, because the door panel hangs in a stabelized metal frame.
